Contemporary Worship Study
The congregation as St. John’s Church has established a set of goals, one of which is to offer an “alternative” worship service — alternative in style and time and possibly location.
To help achieve that goal, we are undertaking a study of a book entitled “Contemporary Worship for the 21st Century: Worship or Evangelism,” by Daniel Benedict and Craig Miller.
The study will occur on six consecutive Sunday evenings, from January 7th through February 11th, at 6:30 PM, at the church, and will be lead by Pastor Mark
“This book is an invitation to you to be part of a critical, evangelical conversation. It is an evangelical conversation, because in and through it we believe the Holy Spirit is prompting a new dialogue about the making and nurturing of Christian disciples. In a time of institutional malaise, Jesus stands knocking on the door of the church and asks, ‘Are your structures and priorities leaning outward in mission? Or do they lean inward in self-maintenance and institutional preservation?’ These questions invite honest and risky struggle. There will be grace — and there may be change!” (from the Preface of the book, page vii)
Already a second order of books has been made — the class is growing in size. But there’s always room for more. Won’t you consider joining the class? Call the church to register (603-742-3046), or with any questions that you may have.
