Katrina Mission Trip - Slidell Day 5
Greetings from Slidell – Day 5
It is our last day, prior to leaving for home, and we started off with laughter, as we “roasted” Patrick because it was his birthday with a “Flat Patrick” presentation. Below is just one of the many photos we used in this humorous look at our life here. Just click on any of the pictures to see the full-size image.
After an excellent devotional by Cathy, we took off to our work sites. We are working at two additional sites, so photos of the work crews at their work locations appear below.
We got a look inside one of the FEMA trailers, and thought you would be interested in seeing how our government has decided that EIGHT people should live for up to 18 months while their homes are being repaired. The trailers are approximately 8 feet by 28 feet, and contain two bedrooms one with bunk beds, and one with a double bed. There are handicapped trailers that are larger to accommodate a wheel chair and actually seem more luxurious, but not by much! Here are photos of the insides of one of the regular trailers. There are two shots of the master bedroom, one with the left side of the bed against the tiny nightstand, and the other with the foot of the bed against the closet door – very useful!
The group shot below is from after the Ash Wednesday service here at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, and most of us still have our ashes on our foreheads. It was a very moving service, and we were thrilled to be able to express our gratitude to the members of this church for their support not only of us, but also of the many volunteer groups who come to help.
As a final note, and very important note before we close our journal, we will be making a presentation to the congregation soon, but more importantly, we are available to make presentations to your other organizations as well! For more information, please contact Claire Bloom, at (603) 335-3112 or by “E” mail at cvblcdr [at] aol [dot] com, and we will work out the details!
