Youth Group
Hi,
Lots of news this week, so here goes!
First of all, the CHALLENGE. If you haven’t gone to the St. John’s website to sign up to receive notices, Mike C sent this information to help you out:
To qualify, you have to register at http://www.stjohnsdover.org/register. Once you receive the email with your password, login and update your “Subscriptions” to include the “foryouth” category.
When you have done that, I get notified, and you get your prize. A few of you have already registered - thanks!!!
Now, if you had registered, you would have received the notice that five of our youth — Ashley K, Wilson H, Carolyn and Katii C, and Nicole B — are part of a production of that great musical The Music Man at Portsmouth Christian Academy’s gym stage, March 29, 30 and 31, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $7.00. Come on out for a fun evening and support these five young people and many others!
I also had the pleasure of seeing Ashley W and Tia (Logan’s sister) in Cinderella at Rollinsford Grade School last week. Because of the weather last weekend, you still have a chance to catch this wonderful show. It’s on for this Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. Tickets are just $5 and worth every penny!
Now for the official youth group news - this week we are helping with the Children’s Easter Party on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. We’ll help with crafts and games and probably have more fun than any of the children! Then from 3-5 p.m. we will continue practicing our karaoke talents with the 50’s music for our 50’s for Freedom Night. We had lots of fun last week, but there are a lot of youth who are not familiar with this music decade. It’s a busy weekend, and I suspect not everyone can devote four hours to youth group, so please just let me know what your availability is, so we can plan accordingly. Thanks!
In case you don’t have all the details for the 50’s for Freedom Night, it is Saturday, April 14 (unfortunately Dover Senior Prom, but we can’t change the date now) at 5:30 p.m. We will be dressing up in 50’s styles and serving drive-in restaurant fare (burgers, fries, milkshakes). After dinner we’ll have an open mike karaoke night with a few twists to raise money to free bonded slaves. The prices are $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12 and $5 for the karaoke time only.
We will be looking for adult support for this event to allow the youth to be in the dining room as much as possible. Here are a few essentials:
1. Blenders for the milkshakes and operators
2. Griddles for the burgers and operators
3. Deep fryers for the fries and operators
I think you get the idea! It will be a fun night but at the same time, we will be raising money and awareness for our anti-slavery campaign. We welcome ideas, costumes, bodies, voices!
Peace and Love to All,
Brenda
