Katrina Youth Mission - Day Four

Day 4 - Tuesday, February 26, 2008

It was back to the jobsite after a hectic morning of showers, packing lunches, and getting our breakfast. Meeting back up with the group from Michigan felt like seeing old friends again. Everyone seemed to know where they were supposed to go without instruction. Prepping countertops, trimming, casing doors, and lots of caulking passed the time quickly.

I guess God saw all of our hard work because next thing we knew we heard our foreman say ok, guess it’s time to wrap up. It was only about 3 p.m. so we were a little confused. Sam then explained how the power had gone out, so we finished what we could do without power (this is where the lots of caulking came into play; we caulked until we ran out of caulking!). This situation provided a real connection to our motto of “you have to be flexible”.

Back to “God’s camp” we went to get showered and freshen up for our night out at Bayou Country. Bayou Country is a unique, locally-owned souvenir shop/restaurant. It stayed open after hours especially for the mission teams of New Hampshire (ours and First Parish Church of Dover). We enjoyed nice company and authentic bayou food.

We wrapped up the night with songs & a devotion on the joy of not only God, but life. We studied joy in preparation for tomorrow’s tour through New Orleans. Keep us in our prayers as we drive through the devastation still there two years later.

With Peace,
Maggie
