Katrina Mission Adult Team Day 6 with photos

Dearest all,

I probably should have told you at the very beginning, you can click on any photo and see the original photo which is much larger!  Also, check out the website www.sbpg.net , go to the bottom on the right hand side and click on Katrina video to see live videos of the hurricane!

We have completed our week of work, and have only one more meal together before early morning brings us to our trips away from St. Bernard’s Parrish and the city of Arabi Louisiana where we have been working for a week.  I hope you have benefited from our reports telling you of our mental, emotional, physicial and spiritual journey.  It has been a long and tiring week, but well worthwhile, for us as well as for our new friends.

Following work yesterday, we showered and went on a tour of the levee that broke, the ninth ward, and then finished in the French Quarter at Cafe Du Monde.  At the levee, our people played at holding it up, which offered a great shot.  In the Ninth Ward we saw that while some more people have clearly come back since last year, there are still entire neighborhoods which are totally empty.  There is little improvement from last year.  The French Quarter was alive and well, and we saw Chris Angel (the magician) in Cafe du Monde!

We got back to our sleeping quarters to enjoy dinner, which we ate in the building where we are staying.  Cheri did the prep work in the kitchen at the church and brought it over to the other building which is about 2 miles or so away from where we are actually sleeping.  We ate it in the same room where we have been having our devotionals each morning and evening.

Following dinner, I caught Ron talking to his cousin!  I promised him I would include this photo for her!

Today we gathered together with Ervin and Mark blessed his house, we offered our prayers for him and sang two songs.  He was thrilled, and then we got a poster and signed it for him so he can frame it and keep it to remember us. Then work continued.

I also toured a really nice neighborhood where there were only a few more homes rennovated and lived in as in the Ninth Ward, showing that mother nature is an equal opportunity devastator (if that is a word).

I hope to have one more page up with the before and after photos of Ervin’s house.  In the meantime, we thank you all for your prayers, and especially Janet who provided us with cards to read throughout our time here, to help us feel connected and blessed!  Thank you so much!  It is as though you were here with us!

In God’s love, in God’s service, as God’s hands, as your mission team!
