News & Notes (special)
Dear St. John’s Church Family,
Since I mailed yesterday’s “News and Notes,” several things have come across my desk, so I thought I’d send out a “special edition.
Tomorrow evening Joanne and Guy Eaton’s daughter, Holly, and Travis Corbin will be married in our sanctuary. More of the details are in the July issue of “The Bell-Wether” that was mailed out this morning. Please keep this wonderful young couple in your prayers as they begin this new phase of their relationship!!
I received word yesterday that Stefany & Josh Kizirian had their second child!! It’s a little boy named Tavin, who checked in at 7 lbs and 6 oz!! They are coming home from the hospital today. Praise God for this new gift of life to Mom, Dad and big sister, Nadalia!!
I’m sure you’ve all caught glimpses, at the very least, of the devastating tornadoes and flooding that is occurring through much of our country. It is so difficult for many of us to understand the magnitude of the problems. As you may also know, the United Methodist Church will be right there in the middle of the assistance that’s given. May we all regularly hold the affected folks in prayer. And if you feel lead to help with the recovery, you can place your gift in the offering plate on any Sunday. Please clearly mark your gift “UMCOR storm recovery.”
Mindy Aumann asked me to share this with you:
Please bring your family and loved ones for a special tribute. Many area businesses and organizations are coming together to hold a benefit for the children of Deborah Archer. As you may have heard, Deborah Archer was suddenly taken from the lives of her family on Tuesday May 27th while walking her dogs along Rte 9 in Berwick. She was a wonderful Christian woman, always helping others. She attended church at the Family Christian Center in Berwick, and her 4 younger children attend Seacoast Christian School. The benefit will be Sunday, June 29, starting at Noon at the Berwick Rec Field on Sweetser Street, Berwick, ME. The Berwick Youth Baseball will play the Berwick Police in 3 games - 12:00, 1:30, and the championship game at 3. The Berwick Police will have their radar gun there to see how fast you can throw! Then at 5:00 there are two bands that will be performing a free concert. The concession stand will be open all afternoon, and there are many raffle prizes donated by area businesses. All proceeds will go to Deborah’s children. This event continues to grow, so there will probably be more there. If anyone would like to donate goods or services for the event or raffle, please have them contact CFarwell1 [at] Verizon [dot] net -or Salon9 [at] Comcast [dot] net. We hope to see you there! Thank You. Mindy Aumann
And on the outside chance that any of you might be interested and available for this: Sudbury United Methodist Church, 251 Old Sudbury Rd, Sudbury, MA, is sponsoring a bone marrow/peripheral blood stem cell donor screening to be held from 4-8 p.m. on Monday June 23, 2008 in Hawes Hall Fellowship Hall. Co-sponsor of the drive is Calvary United Methodist Church of Arlington. Every year more than 35,000 people in our country are diagnosed with medical conditions that could potentially require blood stem cell or bone marrow transplants; 70% of those people must rely on an unrelated donor to offer them the precious gift of life. Testing is easy: it requires a buccal (cheek) swab; it is not a blood test. Representatives from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute will be present to conduct the testing. Cost: Most Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island health plans cover this testing so please bring your insurance card. Volunteers are not turned away-there is funding available through Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. For more information on NMDP visit www.dana-farber.org/nmdp . For additional information about this specific drive contact Sudbury United Methodist Church at 978-443-4351, or click here for more information: Bone Marrow Testing Flyer
That’s all. Have a great weekend. See you in church for Childrens’ Sunday . . . and remember it begins at 9:30 AM, and there’s only one service!!
Peace, Mark
