Katrina Mission Team Orientation
Preliminary Volunteer in Mission (VIM) training and orientation takes place at St. John’s UMC on September 26 @ 6:30 PM. The program blends the experience of returning VIM volunteers with those who are just thinking about going on their first mission trip.
Our team departs New Hampshire on Saturday, March 14 and returns home on Sunday, March 22, 2009. This past February we relocated from Slidell, LA across Lake Pontchartrain to St. Bernard Parish. We are guests of Covenant UMC, in a church building converted to house volunteers. Our St. Bernard Parish work projects remain under the supervision of the Southeast Disaster Recovery Center in New Orleans East.
This team includes volunteers from other United Methodist churches in the Seacoast region, and perhaps others. The fee, including transportation and all meals while in Louisiana, will be about $350. Limited scholarships for up to 50% of the fee are available. We welcome volunteers with all home construction skill levels, from novice to professional. Most important is for volunteers to show a compassionate Christian spirit of helping those in need and the willingness to serve selflessly as VIM team members.
If you have questions prior to the September 26 orientation, call either Patrick Murphy @603-557-2781 or Mike Willett @207-748-3431.
