Katrina Mission Team Update

About two dozen people attended our Volunteers in Mission (VIM) orientation and initial training, coming from our St. John’s family as well as towns stretching from Portsmouth to Guilford. This will be repeated in November for others who have joined our team, or who want to learn more about serving the people of St. Bernard Parish, LA.

Joining our March 14-22, 2009 team costs $310, the same as the 2008 teams. The fee includes ground transportation, lodging in Roanoke, VA & Arabi, LA, all food and drink from Monday through Friday in LA, two dinners with local friends in Slidell and Chalmette and a guided tour viewing Orleans and St. Bernard Parishes’ progress since Hurricane Katrina. Also included are Southeast Disaster Response Center construction supervision and tools, insurance and a mission team tee shirt. As in all past mission trips to the region, funds remaining in our mission team account are donated to our host church, Covenant UMC, and SDRC.

The deadline for applications is December 1, 2008. The application is available online at www.stjohnsdover.org, to be downloaded, filled out and emailed or mailed. St. John’s is available to help you, if you find yourself needing some financial assistance. Contact Pastor Mark @ 742-3046 or Patrick Murphy @ 557-2781.

The only official team fund raiser takes place on Saturday, December 6. A Louisiana style supper will be held at St. John’s from 4:30-6:00 PM. So mark your calendar, and watch for further announcements down the road.
