Sermon: “The Spirit of God” by Claire Bloom

I wanted to make sure I didn’t forget anything, so I’ve got this all written down. I’m going to try and say it like it comes from the heart because it is from the heart. Because what I’m telling you today is my story.

The scripture readings for today highlighted several passages from both the Old and the New Testaments which referenced the Holy Spirit. Now many Christians think that the Holy Spirit is totally a New Testament Christian concept and especially that which came at Pentecost when the Spirit of the Lord came down upon all the people, and they all started speaking in strange languages.

But note: there are lots of Old Testament readings that address the issue of the Holy Spirit. And so, I’m going to share some of those with you.

Lent is about “roughing it,” about letting go of what’s distracting us and getting back to basics, individually and corporately.
