Katrina Mission Team - Departure & Travel
OFF TO LOUISIANA WE GO….After much creativity and the use of our amazing packing skills, we managed to pack the four vehicles successfully Friday afternoon.
We left bright (uh, actually still dark) and early (and I mean really early!) Saturday morning with our luggage packed over, under and around us and with the Lord at our side. Our families, friends and pastors sent us off with prayers and hugs. The weather in the northeast was bright and cold, but we gradually worked our way towards the rain which will be with us for the next couple of days.
We arrived safely in Roanoke, VA around 6PM, settled into our rooms at Bonsack United Methodist Church, and went to dinner at The Three Lit’l Pigs Restaurant (barbecue being their specialty). It was awesome!
We’ll be back to Bonsack United Methodist Church on our return trip. Thank you Bonsack UMC for graciously letting us use your facilities!
We got on the road again by 6:15 for another 14 hours of driving! We took lots of rest stop breaks, but it was definitely a long ride. We arrived safely at the Reaching Out In Love Relief Center in Braithwaite, LA around 9 PM. We met some other volunteers from Kansas, Oaklahoma and Canada. We’re exhausted from the trip, but anxious to get to work in the morning.
