Men’s Book & Video Group

On June 8 our men gathered one last time before our summer vacation. The group first met on January 14, 2002 at Peter Parady’s home. Peter, Earle Custer, Lenny Colongione and Bruce McAdam were the charter members. The group now fluctuates between five and 8 in attendance. Food and drink offerings expanded over the years, so we usually share in offerings such as home baked breads, fruit and ice cream (perhaps all three!).

Kate Braestrup’s “ Here If You Need Me” generated much discussion about the life and death issues facing the Maine warden service. The author serves as their Chaplain during search and rescue missions.

The book led us into a discussion of how we look at death, including our attitude towards cremation. Our fellowship thrives amidst our differences on sports, political and social issues. Sometimes we share a personal faith or life-changing experience. Other times we exchange banter about an upcoming Yankees-Red Sox series.

All St. John’s men, either members or visitors, are invited to join us at our next gathering on Monday, September 14. The book and location will be announced in the August Bell-Whether and on www.stjohnsdover.org.
