VIM Opportunity in Gulf Coast
In the event that you can’t make the St. John’s Church Mission Trip in April of ’10, this is an invitation to serve as Volunteers In Mission in The Gulf Coast for the weeks of Nov. 1 - 7 and Nov. 8 - 14. All volunteers will be housed in Slidell, LA at the Campus of The Aldersgate UMC. However, the work sites will more than likely be in New Orleans. There is still plenty to do, and individuals and families are still looking forward, even more than four years after Katrina, to being able to move HOME! Your help during one of these weeks will help their dream to be fulfilled.
A willing heart, a Christ-filled Spirit, and a somewhat able body are all that is necessary. The staff of Southeast Louisiana Disaster Recovery will provide the necessary materials and leadership during the week. All you need to do is to get to Slidell with the others, and be ready to serve as directed. The team leaders are planning to have 40 volunteers to serve each week, and these two teams will be Team #12, and Team #13 to serve under their leadership since January 2006. EVERY VOLUNTEER has found that they have the ability to make a difference, and learned to do something they didn’t know how to do before. This will happen to you and the others with you.
A few details: an Orientation Session will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26th, at Wesley UMC, Framingham, MA. Coffee/Snacks and fellowship at 9:30 am, Orientation from 10 to Noon. There are 15 openings and they would like to fill each of them. Our Annual Conference has declared “2010 to be MISSION ‘LEAP’ YEAR”. Each local congregation is urged to become involved in a Mission Ministry, or to add an additional Mission Ministry. Your participation in this trip to The Gulf Coast will assure St. John’s participation the “Mission Leap Year”. Help our church to become one of the first.
