Press Release, Dec. 2009:

Dover area clergy and musicians will present a “Blue Christmas Service” (sometimes called a “Longest Night” service) Monday, Dec. 21, 7 p.m., at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Dover.

The Rev. Dr. Robert Ervin, chaplain at Wentworth Douglas Hospital and retired priest of St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, will preach.

Christmas can be a painful time for many of us. It may be caused by the recent loss of a loved one, or loss of a job, or it may simply “be” that way for us.

“This service will give opportunity to name our sadness,” says Dr. Ervin, “even as we lift up the hopefulness of the promised “light that comes into our darkness.”
