News & Notes 12/23/09
A Blessed Christmas to you, My Friends,
I’m sending this week’s “News & Notes” out a little early, so you will get the reminders in a timely fashion.
Are you out of breath yet? Has the activity in preparation for the celebration of the birth of Christ got you “running?” Well I hope that your “breath will be taken away” (in a different way) by the Spirit’s presence and activity at our Christmas Eve services. Let me remind you one more time of the service times: they are 6:30, 9 and 11 PM. (Communion will be served at all three services.) And the Carillon concert that was originally scheduled to begin at 8:15 PM, has been moved back a bit - and will begin at 8 PM.
Remember that any gifts made on Christmas Eve that are placed in the “special” Christmas Offering envelopes - as well as any “loose” offering (i.e. in no envelope) will be distributed between the Rochester and Dover SHARE Funds, The Dover Cooperative Ministries Food Pantry, and the Somersworth Food Cupboard. Offerings clearly “marked” for other ministries, and offerings placed in our regular offering envelopes will put toward the ministry that is designated (i.e. Current Expenses).
And remember that this Sunday we’ll have just one worship service - at 9:30 AM - and that there is no Sunday School. During Coffee Fellowship we will honor Barb Johnson, as she retires as our Music Director! Please take note of the announcement that is in the “Bell-Wether” that you just received, that there will be basket on the Fellowship Hour table for notes and cards.
Our 2010 boxes of offering envelopes have been prepared for us to pick. They’ll be available at this coming Sunday’s service. If you have any envelopes left over from this year (i.e. 2009), please throw them away after Sunday. Sandy will be referencing 2010 offerings by the number on the envelopes you receive for 2010. This is really important, as it will help assure accuracy in your record keeping.
Our Prayer Chain Coordinator, Sheryl Wentworth has both a new email address and a new telephone number, and she has asked me to share them with you, in the event you have a prayer you would like “sent out” over the prayer chain. Here is that information: wentworthsheryl [at] gmail [dot] com #617-9529
I should also mention that her partner in crime, Wanda W., is out of town for a week or more, so please send/call the requests directly to Sheryl during that time.
Our sister in Christ, Claramae Hebert, is doing well at Dover Rehab. She is gaining strength and flexibility in her left arm and shoulder. She also realized that it would be most beneficial to her to stay in Rehab just awhile longer - she receives physical therapy twice a day at Rehab as opposed to three times a week at home! So she’ll stay there into next week at least. I’ll bet she would love to receive a note or visit!!
Continuing my sharing of “puns for the well educated”:
A grenade thrown into a kitchen in France would result in Linoleum Blownapart.
Two silk worms had a race. They ended up in a tie.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
A hole has been found in the nudist camp wall. The police are looking into it.
Atheism is a non-prophet organization.
That’s all the news that I have for today. Wendy and I extend our warmest wishes that you have a blessed Christmas! See you in church - on Christmas Eve and on Sunday!!
Peace, Mark
