Health Kits for Haiti
Your Outreach Committee plans to assemble UMCOR health kits for Haitian relief @ 6:30 PM on Wednesday, February 10. We invite all St. John’s members and visitors to contribute the contents of at least one health kit (estimated value $12). Individual items from the contents list are also welcomed.
UMCOR health kits provide basic necessities to people who have been forced to leave their homes because of conflict or natural disaster. Due to the recent severe earthquake, over one million Haitians have lost their homes.
Place these items inside a sealable one-gallon plastic bag:
* 1 hand towel (15” x 25” up to 17” x 27”; no kitchen towels)
* 1 washcloth
* 1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
* 1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
* 1 bath-size bar of soap (3oz. and up)
* 1 toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper; no child-size brushes)
* 6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
* $2.00 for UMCOR to purchase toothpaste in bulk and help pay their shipping costs
All items must be NEW items. Emergency kits are carefully planned to make them usable in the greatest number of situations. Since strict rules often govern product entry into international countries, it is important that kits contain only the requested items – nothing more.
Do NOT include any personal notes, additional money or additional materials. These things must be removed and may delay the shipment.
On behalf of the people of Haiti and UMCOR, the Outreach Committee thanks you!
