Hi Gerard, Good to hear you have arrived safe and well. Sorry to hear that the elections have interfered with the mission. I know you will do all that is possible of you. God Bless you and keep you safe. Love Phyllis

Here are some comments from team members.

From Patrick:Our ride to the work site skirts the downtown, and is filled with contrasts. Pancaked buildings, tents in the side streets, and a ten story communications building almost ready to open. The children are walking home from school, wearing blue, green, pink, orange, or some other color uniform. They only walk with their own color. Some go home to their tents next door to where we are working. Others go to homes with security gates and concertina wire. People are trying to earn a little money by selling practically everything. They are trying to survive.

From Lyle: It was good to be doing work today that had visible results. In our small way, we are making a difference. But the most positive benefit will be in the shared spirit of working with the Haitian people.I am overwhelmed, though, by the challenges of poverty and poor infrastructure that affect a vast majority of life here.

From Gerard: I want to tell everyone we are safe and well, and happy to be doing God's work. Tomorrow I will get to do what I do for a living, and it feels good to know I can help. I just want to say hi to my three girls, and tell them I love them!

More pictures coming from Haiti tomorrow. Until then, have a blessed day!

There was some great photography accompanying those good stories...Where was the credit line for the photographer ?!
Your sign-off photo on day three ...The tanker pulling off into the sunset was really successful and a satisfying finish.
Give it a blue ribbon......B.

Adding the St. John's Mailer address, as indicated above, is unfortunately not sufficient to avoid the GMail spam detector.

We have a known problem that the older versions of webmail systems like Hotmail, Yahoo and Comcast do not properly display the emails we send to subscribers in universal text format (UTF-8) -- these older systems seem to insist on interpreting it as ISO-8859-1. Gmail, and the newer versions of Hotmail (Windows Live) and Yahoo (Beta) display UTF-8 encodings just fine. This shows up most commonly as an A-circumflex when there are two spaces adjacent, and one of the spaces is *supposed* to be displayed as a non-breaking space. Oh well, you can always read the article online or adjust your subscription settings by following the links at the bottom of each email.

I've updated this article (along with an update to our subscription mailer.) It should no longer be necessary to avoid characters like the “fancy quotes” that Word creates. Please forward examples of any remaining problems to me. Thanks, Mike
