How can I help with the web site?
There are so many ways in which you can help with StJohnsDover.org. If you’re fairly comfortable using other web sites, e.g. you manage your email online or participate in online groups, then you can easily learn to contribute here!
Contributor: Post announcements about what’s happening at St. John’s - in worship, youth, sunday school, education, mission, outreach, hospitality - pick one or more; you name it! Maintain a simple reference page about a part of our church program, who does what, current projects, and how others can volunteer to get involved. You don’t have to do it all… you might for instance [need a graphic of a helper here]. Join one of our editors workshops and then read our editors guide occasionally for a refresher.
Page Helper: Help contributors by finding and adding appropriate graphics, “perfecting” layout, proof-reading, etc. See WikiFairy and WikiGnome on wikipedia, for the true credit due this role!
Theme developer: Design and implement the standard page formats and visual layout of the site, in CSS themes and PHP page templates. You don’t have to do it all from scratch — WordPress has dozens of themes available as “starting points.”
Solutions support: Help us setup web surveys, etc., for special projects. Assess the best package for the job, and have Systems Support install it. Implement the solution and support the project through to completion.
Systems support: If you want to get seriously into PHP you can help out customizing and maintaining our WordPress (WP) installs on Linux. We use the subscribe2 plugin to mail from WP to our subscribers, and there are little gremlins that need to be straightened out. There are probably lots of other plugins that could help StJohnsDover.org in our work together, if only we had time to find and assess them!
Thanks for considering how you can help to spread the Word. In His Service,
Mike Capern, Mike Willett, Bob Johnson
